About Our Volunteering Placements
Which project should I choose?
We recommend that you take your time in considering which of the different international volunteering options that we offer best suits you, and consider the country in which you will be carrying out your placement and the type of activities each one requires. Read our Volunteer Programs page carefully to see which placement you most identify with or that captures your attention. Don’t forget that wherever you go you will be able to contribute something, regardless of your level of education or work experience. Contact us and we will be happy to provide more information about all of our partner projects and destinations.
What are the prerequisites to being an ONGVoluntariado volunteer?
The only non-negotiable prerequisite to being a volunteer is for you to be legally considered an adult. For certain volunteer roles, you will need to have a specific personal or professional profile to be able to participate in the project, but this does not have to present an obstacle to you finding your perfect project. Based on the abilities and interests that you do have we will be able to match you with the project where you will be able to contribute the most. The most important thing is for you to be motivated, interested and to have the right attitude.
What level of language skills do I need to have?
The universally-spoken language in Latin America is Spanish. Every volunteer should be capable of at least high-intermediate conversational Spanish.
Can I choose which partner project I want to work with?
Yes. We always advise our potential volunteers which programs to go for based on their preferences, current program needs, and the appropriate programs for your skills, but the final decision is yours.
I don’t have a lot of vacation time. Could I do a 2-week placement in any of the programs?
We understand that a lot of people simply don’t have the time to spend on a mid- to long-term volunteer placement, or that many people wish to combine time spent volunteering with time spent as a tourist. For this reason we collaborate with projects that can still benefit greatly from short-term help – even 2 weeks.
Can I volunteer on my own?
Of course you can. We can organize accommodation and volunteer placements for anyone travelling on their own, as a couple or with a group of friends. All we need is for you to let us know enough in advance for us to be able to coordinate our resources.
